WestCoast Racing, one of the driving forces in the TCR International Series since its inception, today partly unveiled its racing programme for 2017, together with a strategic realignment of its activities. Following a planned evolution of their association, WestCoast Racing and long-time partner Sportpromotion will pursue different paths. Under the leadership of Greger Petersson, Sportpromotion will continue running the current JAS-prepared Honda civic cars in the newly-formed TCR Scandinavia Series, while WestCoast Racing will continue being present in the TCR International Series with a new car brand that will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.
“We have been present in the TCR International Series since the very beginning,” explained Dick Jönsson, team principal of the Swedish team, “and are delighted to see both how much the concept is growing and how successful we have been, clinching more race wins [12 in two years]than any other team so far. We will continue to be a part of the family and are engaging in a new challenge. I hope we will be in a position to announce very soon the brand of our cars for 2017, together with the number of cars we will enter [possibly, three]and the names of the drivers.” Present at the press conference, Mikhail Grachev is expected to be one of those.
The event also served to introduce the sponsorship deal for the final stint of the 2016 season signed with Acronis, one of the leading data protection companies, which is very likely to be extended in 2017. “Motorsports is about speed, efficiency and winning, which are key attributes in pour business too”, commented John Zanni, Chief Marketing Officer of Acronis, “We are present in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso and we are very happy to get now into TCR, which is a very interesting and appealing category.”
