The Mathilda Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI of Benjamin Leuchter and Andreas Gülden returned to victory in the VLN series on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife.
After rounds 5 and 6 went to Audi and Opel, the two German drivers won the TCR class in the 7th round of the series, the 3-hour 57. ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen; this was their fourth victory during the season so far.
The Golf #802 completed 20 laps and was classified 28th overall out of the 162 starters. Leuchter and Gülden found strong competition from the Kissling Motorsport Opel Astra of Volker Strycek-Hannu Luostarinen (winner round 6) and the Audi RS3 LMs of the Norwegian trio Håkon Schjærin-Atle Gulbrandsen-Kenneth Østvold (winner of round 5). Eventually they finished in the same lap with small gaps: 61 seconds the Opel and 93 seconds the Audi.
The VLN's next round will be the 49. Barbarossapreis on October 7.
