TCR Italy – Viberti wins the races, but Colciago is the champion

BRC Racing Team’s Alberto Viberti dominated the sixth event of the Italian Touring Car Championship at Imola, claiming a double victory ahead of Roberto Colciago (AGS Motorsport) and guest star Petr Fulín (Krenek Motorsport) who equally shared the other podium positions.
However, this did not help Viberti to keep the title fight open until the next and final race meeting that will take place at Monza on October 29 and 30. His gap of 37 points from Colciago cannot be filled as the drivers must drop two results out of the 14 championship rounds.

Race 1 – Finlay Crocker took a great start from fourth on the grid and jumped into the lead; however the Scotsman was soon passed by Viberti, Fulín and Colciago. This trio managed to pull away from the early laps; Romy Dall’Antonia and Crocker were trailing at distance in fourth and fifth, while Marco Costamagna overtook Daniele Cappellari for sixth on lap 4.
From the fifth lap, Viberti increased his gap ahead of Fulín who managed to move away from Colciago. The positions were not to change further, except for Crocker who lost his fifth place spinning off at the Rivazza 1 on the last-but-one lap.

Race 2 – Once again Crocker was the fastest at the start, but this time Viberti managed to keep him at bay and maintained the lead. In the next two laps Crocker slipped to fourth behind Colciago and Fulín. While Viberti pulled away on the way to his second victory of the weekend, Colciago, Fulín and Crocker were in a close fight over the third place. However, after mid distance they lost contact with each others and finished in the order behind Viberti.
The last thrill was provided by Samuele Piccin and Cappelari who where battling for the fifth position; on the last-but-one lap Cappellari overtook his rival, but then made a mistake at the Rivazza bend and handed the position back to Piccin.
