TCR Italy – One win apiece for Baldan and Scalvini

Nicola Baldan (Pit Lane Competizioni SEAT León) and Eric Scalvini (MM Racing Honda Civic Type-R) claimed one victory apiece at Misano in the TCR Italy second event. However, with Baldan stopped by a technical issue in the second race, Scalvini reinforced his leadership in the standings stretching the gap to 27 points.
On Saturday evening, pole sitter Nicola Baldan took the lead from the start, while Eric Scalvini stalled the engine and dropped at the back of the field. On lap 2, Scalvini made contact with Kevin Giacon’s Opel Astra; Giacon retired soon afterwards following a second collision with Giuseppe Montalbano’s SEAT.
Baldan built a comfortable lead and claimed his first victory in the championship ahead of Plamen Kralev’s Audi. Scalvini recovered to third after overtaking the Audi cars of Enrico Bettera and Massimiliano Mugelli and then Andrea Argenti’s SEAT on the last lap.
Scalvini started the second race from pole position and fled to score his third win of the season, beating Mugelli and Kralev by eight and twenty-three seconds respectively. Matteo Bergonzini finished a brilliant fourth in his BF Motorsport SEAT.
Baldan was forced to pit at the end of the second lap and retired due to a technical issue, while Massimiliano Gagliano (Volkswagen) rejoined after a spin to finish seventh behind Bettera and Nicolò Zin (SEAT). Giacon did not start as his Opel was not repairable after a Race 1 incident.

The TCR Italy will resume on June 17 and 18 at Monza.
