TCR Asia & China – Kusiri wins again at Shanghai

After his victory in round 9, Kantadhee Kusiri also won the 10th round of the TCR Asia Series at the Shanghai International Circuit. Just like in yesterday’s first race, the Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver led home his teammate Diego Moran. These results helped the Thai to regain the lead in the Drivers’ championship, with a margin of 10.5 points ahead of his fellow countryman Tin Sritrai, while Moran lies third with a gap of 11 points.
TeamWork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong was classified third overall in the race and won the TCR China’s round 5.
Kusiri made a perfect start from pole position and began to pull away, while Moran moved slowly and was only fifth when the field negotiated Turn 1. However, the Ecuadorian managed to regain the second position during the first lap and followed Kusiri with a gap for the whole race.
The race was enlivened by the battle between TCR China’s top drivers who were also fighting for the third place in the race. Eventually Wong emerged as the winner ahead of his own teammate Ma Qing Hua, meaning that all the first four places in the overall classification were filled by Volkswagen Golf GTI cars.
The NewFaster Team’s Audi of Andy Yan finished in fifth position and third in TCR China, while Sritrai’s Team Thailand Honda completed the TCR Asia podium in sixth overall.

Later in the afternoon, TCR China competitors with the addition of TCR Asia’s two Elegant Racing Team SEAT cars, took part in the 60-minute Race 3. Huang Chu Han took a dominant victory in his NewFaster Team Audi, although the TeamWork Motorsport Volkswagen of Alex Hui and Ma Qing Hua managed to close the gap in the final laps and crossed the line in second place, less than two seconds behind. Third place went to another TeamWork Golf car, shared by Sunny Wong and Alex Fung. After leading the race in the early stages, Yan was slowed down by a technical issue and finished 10th, four laps behind.

Both the TCR Asia and TCR China series will resume at Zhejiang Circuit on October 7th and 8th together with the TCR International Race.
