It is an emotional Macau event for Greger Petersson, owner of Sportpromotion, the partner entity of WestCoast Racing, as this will (momentarily) be his last appearance in the TCR International Series.
As announced yesterday by WestCoast Racing, the Swedish team is to continue alone campaigning the TCR International, while Sportpromotion is to focus on a new venture: promoting the new TCR Scandinavia Series, resulting from the STCC adopting TCR rules. “Developing TCR in Scandinavia, building on the legacy of the STC is an exciting project and we want to put all our attention on making a success of the new series,” explained the personable Swede.
Petersson confirmed taking up this new role will entail ending his entrant activity and selling the Honda Civic cars used successfully these last two seasons. It also means saying good-bye to the TCR International Series: “These two TCR season have been fantastic for Sportpromotion and I am very proud that we have achieved so many memorable victories and to have contributed to build the TCR from a fledging concept into a premier touring car racing format. I wish to warmly thank both JAS and WestCoast Racing for their outstanding work and excellent cooperation, and I wish them well. Similarly, I wish all the best to the TCR International Series. It’s sad for me not to continue in it, but I’m always part of the TCR bigger family, and I will be visiting often my friends at races.”
