Jean-Karl Vernay (pole position): “I really like this track, and street circuits in general, and was really happy to set the pole. There were a couple of yellows at the beginning at the session, and the track was still very dirty, but then I had a perfectly clean lap and everything went well. The car feels simply great. For the race, I will try to have a good start and stay focused, then we’ll see what happens.”
Gianni Morbidelli (second fastest): “It’s a much better result than yesterday. We changed everything on the car and it worked. Of course, we couldn’t approach Jean-Karl’s time, but I am very happy with the car. It’s very hot in the car, but this is the same for everybody. It will be a tough race, I’ll go for the best possible result, as I am no longer fighting for the title, but this is a track where it is difficult to overtake and also defend the position.”
Mat’o Homola (third fastest): “It’s good to be back in the top-three and so close to the second, it was long overdue! I am very happy of the result, also because this is the first time I race on a street circuit and the first time of our team here, so we did not have much data to start from.”
Pepe Oriola (fifth fastest): “I pushed well and I am happy with my lap time. I am very surprised of the gaps though, it is hard to believe, but maybe on a track with so little grip as this one, the Balance of Performance differences are magnified.”
Petr Fulín (12th fastest): “The steering wheel is not working perfectly since the crash we had in Buriram. And on top of this, here we are slower than the other cars coming out of the corners because of lack of torque.”
Jordi Oriola (13th fastest): “We are almost three seconds off the pace, which shows we still have a lot of development work to do. The main problem is that we lack power.”
Martin Cao (17th fastest): “This was the first time our car is hitting the track after a couple of tests in the USA. The car looks good, is reliable and all systems work. The main issue are the gear ratios that do not suit the track. I can’t even use the sixth gear. We take this event as a test and hopefully we will be in a better shape in Malaysia.”
