After being beaten by his team-mate Jordi Gené by two thousandts of a second in the first Free Practice, Pepe Oriola set the best time in the second session: 1:42.292.
However, Dutch newcomer Bas Schouten created a surprise by posting the second fastest time of 1:42.927 in the dying moments of the session. No one else was able to complete a lap below the 1:43. mark.
Stefano Comini ranked in third (1:43.302), closely followed by Franz Engstler’s Audi TT (1:43.342.). Gianni Morbidelli was the fastest of the Honda drivers, in eighth position (1:43.460), and Jordi Oriola was classified 14th in his Opel Astra (1:44.000).
The second Astra car of Oscar Nogués missed most of the session as it came back to the pits in a cloud of smoke. The Campos Racing crew is currently investigating on what is believed to be a turbo failure.
The session was disrupted once by the red flag, after only five minutes, when Franz Engstler lost control of his Audi TT and spun off onto the gravel trap at Turn 12.
TCR drivers will be back in action at 15.00 local time for the Qualifying session.
