The second Free Practice took place immediately after the F1 Free Practice. Mat’o Homola’s Opel Astra sat in the DG Sport garage while the team worked on changing the engine after the overheating problems occurred in the morning session.
After struggling in Practice 1, Stefano Comini set the fastest lap of 2:13.731 in the Comtoyou Racing Audi RS3 LMS beating the Lukoil Craft-Bamboo duo of Pepe Oriola (2:13.953) and James Nash (2:13.959) by a couple of tenths.
Roberto Colciago (M1RA Honda Civic Type-R) posted the fourth best time of 2:14.171 and was followed by Jean-Karl Vernay’s Leopard Racing Volkswagen Golf GTi (2:14.406) that had topped the first session.
Hugo Valente (2:14.425) and Attila Tassi (2:14.629) rounded out the top-seven who were all covered by eighth tenths of a second. Gianni Morbidelli was classified ninth, but with a gap of 1.6 seconds from Comini, while Pierre-Yves Corthals placed the only Opel Astra left in tenth position, 1.9 seconds off the leader’s pace.
Both Dušan Borković and Davit Kajaia – who have been among the fastest in the morning session – were not able to repeat themselves because of brake overheating issues.
Duncan Ende’s Icarus Motorsports SEAT León finished the session on three wheels as its front left tyre had blown out.
