WestCoast Racing won the first contest between teams for the Hawkers Fan Award, clearly beating Leopard Racing.
Both teams had received the nominations for their exploits at Singapore last week.
While Leopard Racing emerged during the race weekend for their domination in the first two days, WestCoast’s mechanics had succeeded in rebuilding Morbidelli’s Honda Civic in the two-and-a-half days between the arrival of the containers from Thailand and the delivery of the car at Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The Awards comes as recognition of the work done by chief mechanic Marc Butler, Gavin Ovenden and Ronny Hyrskylahti for stripping the crashed car and rebuilding a new one in a warehouse by the Singapore dock.
Team manager James Nixon commented: “We are proud to win the Hawkers Fan Award for the second time, especially as this is for the hard work done by the technicians and engineers this time to make sure Gianni was on the grid for the Singapore F1 event. There was a lot of work by many people over the last week in the team not just Gianni’s crew, so this award is a Team victory. One they can all be proud of.”
The percentages were 62.4% for WestCoast Racing and 37.6% for Leopard Racing.
