The nominees for the Hawkers Fan Award after the event at Sepang are two guest drivers who joined the TCR International Series and immediately drew attention to themselves: Roberto Colciago and Tin Sritrai.
Their performance was also a remarkable advertisement for the TCR community, which keeps on growing at a global level, as it demonstrated that drivers coming from national and regional TCR championships can join the International Series and fight on equal terms with its leading competitors.
Freshly-crowned champion in the TCR Italy, Colciago made his first-ever appearance in the series and achieved something – setting pole position and winning the first race – that only another rookie driver before him had been able to do: Nicky Thiim at Portimão last year.
As for Sritrai, he returned to the International Series after taking part in his home event at Buriram last year, when he won the TCR Asia race. At Sepang, Sritrai performed even better, as he was in the overall lead for the first three laps and was then victim of Comini’s exuberance while he was targeting a possible podium result.
The motivations for their nominations are:
Roberto Colciago: for winning an exciting fight with Comini in Race 1, with grit and fairness
Tin Sritrai: for fighting on equal terms with the International Series top drivers
