Tiago Monteiro (fastest): “It’s nice to be in Macau again! As always in this first practice, the track is still very dirty and slow, there is very little grip. The first impression about the car is positive, but it is still too early to say, and we still are three seconds above the expected last times. So far, the biggest problem is traffic and the number of cars and drivers on track that are really much slower. This is going to be an issue.”
Pepe Oriola (second fastest): “Not a bad session, although I did not have a single clean lap, and in my fastest lap, I had to overtake the Ford at Police corner. It’s still the very beginning… The most incredible is the very fast lap every time you go back to Macau. Everybody is pushing like mad and all of a sudden, you realize that there are corners… Crazy!”
Jean-Karl Vernay (fourth fastest): “I am happy with this first contact with the track, although the track is still very green. We knew we could expect the Honda cars being very competitive, they are probably the best cars, but the Golf did well and we have room for improvement. There is a lot of traffic and I don’t think it was a good idea to allow gentlemen drivers to race, but that’s how it is in Macau, and we’ll have to live with the situation.”
